Eventide – Short Film (2016)

I had the great opportunity of working with first time director and friend Drew Murphy on his short film Eventide.

Set in the 70’s and inspired by the poem, Abide with Me by Henry Francis Lyte (1847), Eventide tells the story of Norman, a lonesome lighthouse keeper battling with depression, grief and doubt. As he prepares to take his own life and end his suffering, he is confronted by the mayday message of a sailor lost at sea, in search of help.

This film was made possible by the folks at who supported it in script form and provided the means for it to happen. I am forever grateful to them for believing in the story and allowing me to pursue my dream of making it.

I cut this on Premiere Pro CC 2015 at our New Creation full equipped edit suite in Woodstock.

There have been a collection of great articles for this piece on We-Are-Awesome and SA Creative Network

Lina and Leo wins award at SA Indie film festival

I had fun editing this crazy off beat dark comedy, Lina and Leo, set in the Karoo. (I seem to have a propensity towards stories set in that semi – desert region).

Just recently it took home the BEST MUSIC award at the THE INDEPENDENT MZANSI SHORT FILM FESTIVAL .

I got a nomination for BEST EDITING.

Well done to all involved.

This was cut on FCP 7.

Write and Direct South Africa’s next big animation

South Africa’s very successful Triggerfish Animation Studios, have just unveiled their latest project, “Story Lab.”

A competition, in association with Triggerfish Animation Studio and The Walt Disney Company, open only to African residents.

Submit your original, high concept animation ideas to a panel of expert writers and filmmakers and if it’s what they are looking for your script will be optioned.

This is a rare opportunity to have your work seen by South African and international animation gurus.

Closing date for submissions is 31 August 2015.

I have already started brainstorming ideas. However, there was more sherry sipping and fire side discussion than brainstorming. A successful start nonetheless.

I’ve been privileged to work with Triggerfish on two of their feature films; Zambezia and Khumba.

In 2013 I had a great opportunity to cut an animation again and return to the wonderful people at Triggerfish Animation Studios.

Khumba is the story of a young zebra born with only half his stripes who is rejected by his superstitious herd and blamed for a sudden drought affecting the land.
This adventure has been screened internationally at many great festivals.
Durban International Film Festival – DIFF 2013
Toronto International Film Festival – TIFF 2013
Annecy 2013

I cut these beautiful images on FCP7

Dias Santana Official Trailer (2015) – Action Movie

Above is the trailer for my latest feature edit, DIAS SANTANA.

In 2015 I stepped away from my usual understated minimalist edit style to try my hand at loud, explosive action drama.

Dias Santana is an Angolan / South African co – pro shot in Cape Town and Luanda.

The story follows the exploits of an Angolan cop, DIAS, as he chases down his biggest rival, drug lord, FERREIRA. Cue explosions, car chases and hot girls.

A challenging yet enjoyable experience that allowed for experimental edit styles.

I cut this film from my newly installed, edit suite in Woodstock, Cape Town.
